Whitney and Erik’s Wedding at Vintage Barn at Merefield Farm
A Vintage Barn Wedding
Whitney and Erik’s wedding at Vintage Barn at Merefield Farm in Midway, KY was perfect! We’ve known Erik for years in the wedding industry, so it was an extra special honor to be asked to shoot his wedding. Erik and Whitney are both such sweet and kind people. You honestly couldn’t get a more fun couple to work with!
I loved the colors of this wedding day! The bridesmaids wore the prettiest shade of sky blue. The bridesmaids’ dresses were all the same shade of blue but in various styles that each girl chose for herself. The groom and groomsmen wore navy blue suits and pale blue ties with brown shoes.
Jeanie Gorrell Floral Design created the bouquets and as usual, did a wonderful job. The bouquets were gorgeous and lush with bright colors like pink, peach, blue and coral. Flowers make all the difference in taking a pretty wedding and making it over-the-top beautiful!
Unique venues in central ky
The Vintage Barn at Merefield Farm is a lovely and unique wedding venue in Central Ky. Located in the adorable town of Midway, the ceremony location is right amid wide-open fields in horse country.
What makes the Vintage Barn so unique is first, when you walk in, you see that the barn is full of vintage and antique items. It’s almost like going inside an antique shop! There are sofas and small tables throughout that offer guests a place to hang out with friends and socialize.
On the walls inside the Vintage Barn, you will find many different pieces of decor such as old picture frames, mirrors and lanterns. The floor has a fun black and white checkered pattern.
The wooden chairs at the tables are mismatched which adds so much depth and character to the space!
vintage wedding decor
The tablescapes are full of items provided by the Vintage Barn and include lanterns, candles, pillar candles, votive candles, and more. Whitney and Erik also added eucalyptus garland down the center of the bridal party table. The bridal party table was a wooden farmhouse table, which I always love!
The place settings included gold chargers and white and gold plates with gold flatware. One of my favorite details was the wedding cake. The wedding cake was set on a white cake stand and was from Nothing Bundt Cakes in Lexington. The cake topper was the couple’s last name “Martin”, and they had 2 golden retriever figurines on either side of the bottom of the cake.
The grooms cake was “Friends” themed. It was purple and the topper said, “He’s her lobster”. How cute!
first looks and private vows
It was quite evident throughout the entire wedding day that Whitney and Erik are very special to many people. We are not the only ones that think they’re great! They were surrounded by a large group of friends and family that were thrilled to celebrate their love for each other.
Whitney and Erik opted to do a first look, and it was a great decision! We shot it right outside the barn under a tree and it was so sweet and intimate. The couple also read their private vows to each other and exchanged gifts. They are awesome gift givers!
Another component of the Vintage Barn at Merefield Farm that makes it super unique and special is the outdoor ceremony location. The ceremony location is close to the barn but has black horse farm fences and fields with trees in the background.
There is a gazebo style chapel outside where the bride and groom can stand with the officiant. It is made of wood, painted white, and shaped like a church but without walls that block it in.
The chapel was adorned with gorgeous fluffy flowers and greenery. In the back was a white chippy vintage window with panes that is so pretty! They also included a cross inside the chapel that had a garland of greenery draped across it. The sand ceremony components were set on a vintage wooden table.
Lexington’s wedding industry
There are so many benefits to being a part of such a robust and vibrant wedding industry as what we see in the Lexington, KY area. One benefit is having the opportunity to shoot at many different wedding venues like the Vintage Barn at Merefield Farm.
Another benefit is getting to know other wedding vendors that make up this industry. Erik was one of the first people that we got to know in the industry years ago. He worked for City BBQ at the time in their catering department. By the time he got married, he no longer worked there, but they had City BBQ cater the wedding! Smoked turkey and brisket! Yum!
Another amazing wedding vendor that we met that day was Luke Metzger with Luke Metzger Visuals. He is one of the kindest individuals in the wedding industry and always a pleasure to work with. In fact, we enjoyed working with him so much, we hired him to capture Olivia and David’s destination wedding in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida!
A Vintage Barn Reception
Whitney and Erik’s reception was so much fun for everyone. The guests’ favors were small jars of jam with a label on top that said, “Spread the Love”. What a great gift! There was no stopping the party once the reception was underway!
Including your pets in the wedding
Whitney and Erik included their two golden retrievers in their engagement session which we did out at Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, KY. They were the most adorable, fun-loving dogs! We loved getting to shoot them with their “mom and dad”. So, the cake was a sweet nod to them which just shows how precious they are to Whitney and Erik!
Making the Reception SPecial
I also loved that they included a smores bar! Smores are always welcome, right? What made it even better was the firepit that was available outside during the reception. Guests were able to go out there and sit around the fire chatting and making their smores.
It was fun shooting down at the wedding reception from the upstairs loft of the barn. That always offers a unique perspective of the party.
Erik and Whitney, it was a joy to shoot your wedding! Thank you so much for choosing us to be a part of such a special day!
