Erin and Josh’s Fall Wedding at the Carrick House

A Fall Wedding to Remember

Josh and Erin’s autumn wedding is one of the most memorable that we have shot because it was truly the epitome of fall. Our very favorite season, fall is a time we look forward to all year. Shooting fall weddings is always something we anticipate happily because we are always hoping for cooler weather and beautiful leaves.

The wedding day began for Erin at a lovely historic Airbnb in downtown Lexington. It was the perfect backdrop for her bridal details and her getting ready photos. The adorable Airbnb was located within a short walk of Gratz Park.

The bride’s dress was classic and elegant. She had her done in an updo and wore white heels with open toes and rhinestones on top. Her perfume was Dolce and Gabbana “The One”. Erin’s bouquet was fluffy white flowers with pale greenery, not overly large but not small either.

would the rain stop?

It was lightly raining as Erin got into her dress and we tossed around the idea of not going outdoors for photos. Erin and Josh had planned to do a first look and portraits at Gratz Park but it’s always at the forefront of our minds to ensure the bride stays dry and comfortable.

Finally, it was decided that we would go ahead and try the outdoors, hoping that the rain would stop, and we would be free of bad weather. It turned out that the rain did, indeed, stop. Yay!

When we turned the corner and saw Gratz Park, we all gasped. The trees were completely adorned with bright yellow leaves. It was as if there was never a green or brown leaf that ever thought about growing! It was an autumn wonderland, and we were so grateful that we had decided to do the first look outside!

First Look at Historic Gratz Park

Erin and Josh had a sweet first look and he was, of course, amazed at how stunning his bride was. We shot their bride and groom portraits under the golden autumn leaves. Gratz Park is a historic location to Lexington and beautiful historic homes line both sides of the street as the front of the park faces Transylvania University.

The houses are always a great place for photos, and we have shot multiple wedding parties and engagement sessions there. It is awesome aside from sometimes being a bit crowded. I could not believe that on this perfect fall day, it was not crowded with other photographers and their clients!

It just happened that this was a November wedding and typically, the leaves are past their peak colors. So, most photographers plan their fall photo shoots in October. However, this year, the leaves were a bit late in changing so we were incredibly blessed with the amazing yellow backdrop.

The portraits were so beautiful! Everyone was cheerful and in a better-than-average mood because of the weather and the colorful trees. What a great wedding day shoot!

After the first look, we made our way to the Carrick House, also in downtown Lexington. We have shot at Carrick House several times over the years, and it is one of the best venues, in our opinion. The front of the venue is a large beautiful historic home.

The ceremony was held in the atrium where there is a fountain and the ceiling is glass, revealing the sky. It was getting dark as the ceremony progressed, but it was sweet and beautiful none the less. The bride and groom stood in front of the black wall fountain with large floral arrangements on pillars flanking either side.

Josh and Erin’s wedding reception was held in the reception hall next to the atrium. This is a very large room that is also very beautiful and modern. Curtains can be open or closed to the atrium depending on the preference of the bride and groom.

The reception décor was very classy with regal white floral arrangements and shimmering votive candles. The tables were covered with champagne tablecloths and white napkins for the plated meals. Each reception table had a name that was related to places that were special to the bride and groom.

A Classic Wedding Reception

The wedding cake was a picture of elegant simplicity with white with flowers and light greenery on top of it. Erin and Josh were kind to each other and did not try to smash any cake in any faces!

The first dance was very sweet as the guests sat and watched from their tables. The father-daughter dance is always one of the day’s highlights for me and their dance did not disappoint. It’s just so special! Of course, the mother-son dance is also very special, and their dance was very sweet! Josh loves his mama!

Erin and Josh had a live band to do the music which is a fun bonus and thrills the guests. A live band just adds an extra element of excitement. The guests were ready to party at this point in the evening and they quickly filled up the large dance floor.

Ready to Party!

From the stage, we captured a group shot of Erin and Josh along with all their guests and bridal party. Those shots are always so much fun! Shortly after, everyone moved outside for a faux sparkler send-off. The crowd cheered loudly as Erin and Josh walked through the line happily. After that, without missing a beat, it was back indoors to finish out the party.

At the end of a wedding day, we are always worn out! It is a long, busy day that keeps us on our toes. But the exhaustion is rewarding because we know we have captured our couple’s most important day to the best of our ability.

Typically, within a few days I will have edited sneak peeks and either blogged them or sent them directly to the clients. I try to get sneak peeks available to them quickly because I understand how anxious they are to see their photos! Our clients receive all their photos within 3-4 weeks of the wedding day.

Thanks to Erin and Josh for allowing us to be a small part of such a magical day!
