It’s been a long season of having no weddings to shoot. Besides a couple of very small intimate weddings, we had not shot a full wedding day since last November! So, we were pretty excited to go back out to the Bluegrass Wedding Barn for Allison and Drew’s wedding last Saturday!
We are so excited to finally share a wedding blog again! It was not shot under quite “normal” circumstances but it was sweet, beautiful and emotional…all the necessary elements for a very special wedding day. Due to the COVID 19 regulations, Kendra and Garrett’s ceremony took place outside of their church so that friends and family could sit in their cars to watch.
Spring is finally showing itself in Kentucky. After a long winter, it is so refreshing to see green grass, flowering trees, birds building nests, and budding daffodils. Spring is a beautiful reminder of renewal and hope.
We know that it can be a little intimidating to have your photo taken…even it’s just an iPhone photo! Why else do people take multiple selfies before deciding on one to post?! Your engagement session may feel even more daunting, especially if you’ve never had a professional photo session done! Here are some tips for outfits and accessories to make the preparation feel a little less overwhelming.

In the Lexington, KY area there are numerous beautiful wedding venues. We’ve talked before about our favorite barn venues, outdoor venues and historical/estate venues. This time we’re focusing on the local hotel and golf course wedding venues which also includes country clubs. Some locations may be listed on one of the other lists because they fit into more than one category. For example, Spindletop is both historical and a country club AND it can also be an outdoor venue. Samantha and Jose’s engagement session was our first one of 2020! This sweet couple is getting married this year at The Signature Club which is so beautiful. Winter is a great time to take advantage of city streets where you get more color and variety while the trees and grass are not looking so hot.
With the end of wedding season also comes the end of engagement session season. That doesn’t mean that we won’t do ANY engagement sessions until the spring but they certainly slow down a lot.
On Saturday, November 16th we shot our final wedding of 2019. It was the perfect way to end the season. Lauren and Tyler’s wedding was absolutely gorgeous and these two are some of the sweetest people we have worked with.
We are so excited that a new wedding venue has opened up right down the road from us! For those that don’t know, we live in Lawrenceburg, Ky. The Show Barn at Daynabrook Farms recently kicked off their wedding and events business and it’s only about 15 minutes from us! It is a beautiful barn full of rich wood tones, lots of space, a gorgeous view and a large bridal suite that overlooks the venue’s lobby.
Planning a wedding can seem like one daunting set of decisions after another. After finding a venue, choosing a color theme, and all of the stress that comes with deciding what to wear, your wedding cake may find itself on the back burner. Which is sad because that would ruin the cake, but also because a beautiful wedding cake can be one of the most photogenic and memorable parts of your reception.
Meredith and Chris are two of the sweetest and most pleasant people to be around! We shot their engagement session at Keeneland which is particularly gorgeous in the fall. We were so glad that the leaves have stuck around this late in the season and are actually beautiful at Keeneland right now!
Evans Orchard in Georgetown is not only a fun and great place for a fall outing, it’s also a fantastic location for a wedding! Sydney and Mark are a sweet and loving couple that live in Ohio but because of family connections, came to the Lexington area for their special day.
A lot of people are surprised to hear that October is one of our busiest months of the year. Everyone knows June is popular, of course, but they’re expecting fall to be slow. On the contrary, it is just as busy if not BUSIER than June!
The autumn color is here and we’re not mad about it! Jill and Shawn are a sweet couple that are getting married next year at the Barn at McCall Springs in Lawrenceburg.
Kelsey and Chase are getting married at the Kentucky Castle next year! The Kentucky Castle is Kelsey’s dream venue so that makes us even more excited for their big day!
It was exciting to shoot at one of the most stunning and elegant wedding venues in Lexington, The Club at UK’s Spindletop Hall. Emily and Colin were married there on one of the most perfect fall days you could ever ask for in the Bluegrass.
Sonya and Shishir’s wedding was so beautiful and fun! Steve did a wonderful job capturing this wedding on video! Alexis with Wild Roots created floral masterpieces and so many other elements went in to make this a wedding to remember! Enjoy watching this highlight reel!
Aimee and Robert were the winners of our engagement session giveaway at a recent bridal show. They chose to do their session in October in hopes that the weather would be nice and the leaves pretty. The evening that we met them at the Henry Clay Estate for their shoot turned out to be cool and breezy.
